Country Homes & Interiors Magazine

Before I started university in 2010, I had the opportunity during the summer months to work with Country Homes and Interiors Magazine.

In fact the work experience which I gained from working with the magazine lead me to change my degree course to Interior Architecture & Design over Fashion Design.

Working with a small team on locations across the UK, I helped create the looks of each summer or winter issue of the magazine.

I specifically enjoyed the visual merchandising part of the experience, especially in these beautiful houses. Styling the shoots with an assistant and photographer, I was able to visit some beautiful homes and experience a shoot from start to the completion in the magazine.

It was so rewarding seeing my hard work in the issue when it came out. I learnt a great deal, and gained an understanding of how interior's really work as well as the vital stages to creating a special shoot. I have styled the editions in the images here.

New I.D Interiors

Working at New I.D Interiors has by far been my favourite experience within the interior industry. As I joined the team for experience before moving to Australia, I had the pleasure of working with senior designers who showed me the ins and outs of the design industry. I learnt that there was more to the design processes and it gave me more of an understanding of a future career as a designer. The design process itself was really insightful and putting together specifications for clients is where the creative flair in me came out. It was important for me to see the processes and also get involved with presentations and site surveys.

After my 2 weeks experience at New I.D; going on site and helping out with design work, I was asked to come back to work for them for an additional 3-4 weeks before I left for Australia. The other designers in the office also needed assistance, so I helped on a range of residental and showhome designs as well as a design for an apartment in Dubai, which was amazing. Working and being part of such an inviting and hard working team made my time there that all more enjoyable. I took everything on board with me to Australia and have been able to use my skills for the project that I was given in Brisbane.

Freelance Designer: Re-design, Renovate

While I was living in Australia, I spent 5 months working on a newly renovated house in Graceville, Brisbane. My clients asked me to incorporate my interior design skills to turn their home into a relaxing, homey and lived in space. This incorporated sourcing new furniture, creating inspirational mood boards, ideabooks and assisting each room in the house as well as helping with the move and placing of furniture.

My client wanted to turn the extremely large garage/ basement into a car showroom to keep beautiful 1960's classic cars, therefore designing this space into an area which would accommodate the style of the vehicles. The garage was to be turned into a 'white box', as the car collection is completely white too. Adding skirting, downlights, artwork, hidden shelving and having accessories such as a vintage Gulf gasoline pump and artwork, the garage has been transformed.

Other areas of the house I had the pleasure of working on was the home gym; a vibrant, motivational space for women to feel comfortable in to work out. From a deserted space, the home gym was turned into a bright, open area. The whole interior project from start to completion, stretched my imagination and design skills within residential design and I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the process. It’s been an amazing experience for me and to of worked on such a wonderful home liaising with fantastic clients.
